  1. I think it's clear that a rigid-defensive/counter-attacking team would actually thrive in Bundesliga. Most teams here like to press high with typical German-style football even without very technical players and tends to slack off in marking just like they don't mark Kruse in 1:37 and gave the Union player space to pass.

In contrast Union defended very deep and tight, closing passing options so that Kone had to gamble with inaccurate, long-range shot, and it was indeed a lucky shot. The good Gladbach chance was also covered by discipline marking and closing by their players.

I think Freiburg showed this in this season by their 6 goals against Gladbach was because their defenders are good at building attacks, but suck at defending. Adi's Frankfurt was also as brittle, but the difference that they had Silva-Jovic-Kostic-Kamada as a front and goal threat.

This is probably the reason Bayern ruled the league since Klopp's Dortmund. The mid to high clubs loves technical players, but they are undisciplined in defence. No use if you could press to score 2 but they score 5 back at you. And it goes back to why Leipzig were playing so good, but lost the league. They have sturdy defence, but lower quality of attacking threat since (God forbid), Timo Werner left.

I swear, teams like Sean Dyche's Burnley probably would challenge top 4 every season in Bundesliga. Their defense are even more rigid than Union's.
