David Beckham’s full name is David Robert Joseph Beckham. He was born on 2nd May, 1975 in Leytonstone, East London, England. His father Ted Beckham was a kitchen fitter and mother Sandra west, a hairdresser. He has 2 sisters. His maternal Grandfather was a Jew and David has been influenced by Judaism. He has a tattoo in Hebrew from the Hebrew Bible; he wears long sleeves and does not display his tattoos publicly.

Soccer has been in his blood right from his childhood. He used to play regularly with his father. His parents were strong supporters of Manchester United, a quality which he inherited. He did not do well at school. He attended a training session at FC Barcelona as part of talent competition. The first club he played for was «Tottenham Hotspur’s» and finally in 1991 he signed a youth training scheme contract.

He started off by playing for Manchester United in the youth team. The Manager, Sir Alex Ferguson had a great faith in his youth team. Beckham did not disappoint and quickly established himself as United’s right side mid fielder. He played very consistently and regularly for Manchester United, but could not find a place in the England squad before ’96. He made some spectacular goals and thus became a house hold name very soon. His performance in 1998-99 seasons fetched him the «runner up» to Rivaldo for the 1999 European footballer of the year awards. He was the highest paid foot ball player in the world. During this time United won the Premier league; title six times, the FA cup twice and the UEFA champions’ league in 1999.

His relationship with his manager Ferguson became very bitter from 2000 and deteriorated by 2003. In 2003 he signed a four year contract with Real Madrid.

He remained with Madrid for four seasons and won the La Liga championship.

In 2007 he signed a five year contract with Los Angeles Galaxy which was worth $32.5 million and that too on his own terms. While playing for Galaxy he also had two loan spells with Milan in Italy in 2009 & 2010.

On the International front David Beckham made his England debut in 1996 when he was 21 years of age, He was made Captain in November 2000 until the FIFA World cup in 2006.

He was the world’s highest paid footballer.

He is married to Former Spice girl Victoria Beckham. The couple has three sons and currently resides in Beverly Hills, California.

The days are being counted as are approaching the Euro 2008 which is definitely going be the blockbuster tournament of the year. The UEFA Euro 2008 will be hosted by Switzerland and Austria. The opening match will be held on Saturday 7th June 2008 at St. Jakob-Park in Basel. Sixteen teams will battle it out in the ultimate tournament with only one goal in mind, the Euro 2008 Cup. The teams are from Switzerland, Czech Republic, Portugal. Turkey, Austria, Croatia, Germany, Poland, Netherlands, Italy. Romania, France, Greece. Sweden, Spain and Russia.

The teams qualified for the Euro 2008 tournament went through tough qualifying matches to reach to the top spots in their standings. The teams divided into seven groups, with the top two in each section going straight into the finals. The qualifying system was simple enough, but still very few sides found it to be plain sailing. Greece being the team with 31 points had to face the most humiliating defeats in their history. After Germany’s Otto Rehhagel failed to make it in the FIFA World Cup in his home country, he was then determined to make a statement in the UEFA Euro 2008 qualifiers but his team had to face a terrible defeat in his own home against Turkey in the most memorable Group C Euro 2008 qualifiers game. Even though Germany made an early goal but Turkey’s play tempo did not let Germany keep up with them.

Turkey managed to achieve the runner’s up place in the Euro 2008 qualifiers table after their final struggling match. England faced many defeats in the qualifying matches but with much struggle managed to steal one victory from Israel putting England last position in Group E of Euro 2008 qualifiers. England did recover from the early defeats in the tournament when they followed a 0-0 draw at home against F.Y.R. Macedonia with 2-0 defeat in Croatia. However, two second-half Roman Pavlyuchenko goals saw Russia make a comeback after the 2-1 defeat in Moscow which then let them only to win their remaining games against the already eliminated Israel and Andorra. Omer Golan’s late goal saw Israel beat Russia 2-1, and then handed the initiative back to Steve McClaren’s England to face Croatia for a spot at the Euro 2008 but unfortunately faced a tie against group winners Croatia. At Wembley a qualification was expected only if the match drew but they lost 3-2 making big errors during the game and let Russia move on 1-0 win against Andorra. Russia’s coach did not expect it to end this way. Other worthy matches of the Euro 2008 qualifying tournament included Denmark-Sweden tie which was finally called off when a pitch invader attacked referee Herbert Fandel for dismissing a Denmark player and awarding the away side a penalty.Don’t forget to catch live UEFA Euro 2008 tournament matches on your PCs. Arsenal fell short at the Nou Camp as they lost again to Barcelona and made an early exit form the Champions League at the last sixteen stage. Despite having a creditable 2-1 lead from the first leg, the odds were probably stacked against them even before the kick off, as the faced the Spanish Champions who are currently ten points ahead of nearest rivals Real Madrid in the La Liga table.

As expected, Barcelona dominated the game from the first kick off and it was obvious the Gunners defence would be hard pushed to preserve their first leg lead. Arsenal defended well but their inability to create dominate possession and create opportunities of their own was an open invitation for their hosts to mount attack after attack.

The fact that Barca were limited to Adriano hitting the crossbar with a shot and Messi wasting a good opportunity but then shooting straight at Almunia, is a credit to Arsenal’s determination in defence as most of the hosts attacks were cut short or they were limited to speculative efforts. As half time approached it looked like the game would remain goalless and the Gunners would preserve their first leg lead.

The turning point in the game came three minutes into injury time in the first half as Csec Fabregas inexplicably attempted a back heel pass which gave the ball away and Messi neatly chipped the ball over Almunia and into the Arsenal goal, which level the aggregate scores but gave Barcelona the advantage having scored an away goal at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal surprisingly regained the upper hand in the 53rd minute when Busquets inadvertently headed the ball into his own goal following a corner, but they suffered a further setback when Van Persie, who had been booked for a previous foul, was given a second yellow card after attempting a shot at goal after the referee had blown his whistle. Despite their protests at the decision to send him off, the Gunners were now reduced to ten men and braced themselves for the Barcelona onslaught.

It wasn’t long before Barcelona capitalised on their numerical advantage as Xavi scored ion the 69th minute before Messi scored his second of the game two minutes later from the penalty spot after Pedro was fouled.

Credit must go to Almunia in the Arsenal goal as he produced a string of fine saves to keep the score line respectable, as the Gunners began to capitulate. Nicklas Bendtner, however, wasted an opportunity to score a late goal that would have seen the visitors through on the away goals rule, but the 3-1 victory on the night was enough to see Barcelona through to the next round as they won 4-3 on aggregate over the two games.
